The need for schooling

James113 started this conversation

Hello my name is Jim Quick and I am a 41 year old with a bad past I spent 21 years in prison and have now found myself back on the streets without an education or job skills that will give my family and myself a future. I was working for a home interior store as delivery/installation but due to the economy was recently layed off. The wife had lost her job only 2 weeks before that so now life is looking bleak again. However, I am not the kind of person who sits back and waits for things to happen but rather will go out and make things happen. I have enrolled in college to get my Associates in Marine Technology since I live at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri where there is always a demand for boat mechanics. I could've just took the vocational course for Marine Tech but decided that getting the degree would raise my options for a job as well as giving me more opportunities to make more money in this chosen career. I decided to take this course because of the marketability for this skill.

The good thing is that my wife was able to find a job quickly but its still not enough. We were barely making it before with two incomes but now its downright impossible. My unemployment will luckily run the length of the my schooling which is the only reason we can afford for me to do this. I want to do everything in my power to make up to my family for my past transgressions and the fact that they never once turned their backs on me. My wife stood by my side through everything and for that I will succeed in this career choice so that I can give her the home she has wanted for years and make it possible for her to walk through town with her head up high.
